Surface preparation before painting
The humidity of wooden surfaces should not exceed 18%. The surface should be clean, degreased, dry, and strong. It is recommended to prime new wood with a suitable primer and sand it with sandpaper, removing dust. Remove old peeling coatings (varnish, paint, etc.) completely, treat the surface with sandpaper, remove dust. Surfaces previously painted with oil or alkyd paint, alkyd varnish, as well as shiny surfaces, treat with sandpaper until matte, remove dust. If necessary, fill and prime the surface with appropriate materials. Prime mineral bases with high absorption capacity with TM AURA or TM Eskaro Aquastop primer.
Application
Be sure to mix the varnish before use. Apply with a brush, roller, or spray gun in 2–3 layers. It is recommended to apply the varnish along the wood fibers from edge to edge of the surface. If necessary, for applying the first (priming) layer, the varnish can be diluted with water no more than 5% by volume. Work should be carried out at ambient and base temperatures from +5ºС to +30ºС. When processing new wood, after the first layer has dried, sand the surface with fine sandpaper and remove dust. Apply the next layer of varnish no earlier than 2 hours after applying the previous one. Applying varnish in conditions of direct sunlight, drafts and high temperatures can lead to coating defects. The color of the surface coated with tinted varnish depends on the number and thickness of the applied layers of varnish, as well as on the color of the substrate (including the shade and type of wood). It is recommended to apply the last layer with untinted varnish.
Publication: Paint wood with tinted varnish correctly!
